Semolina pancakes – a quick, easy, and tasty vegetarian Indian breakfast recipe. Hindi name of this recipe is Suji ka Cheela.


  • 1/2 cup of semolina;
  • 1/3 cup of unsweetened yogurt;
  • 1/3 cup of room temperature water;
  • Vegetables that do not require long cooking, fresh greenery (for example, onions, tomatoes, bell peppers, parsley – all of them supposed to be finely chopped) – to taste. You can make these pancakes with or without vegetables – according to your choice;
  • Spices and herbs – to taste;
  • Salt – to taste;
  • Cooking oil – 2 tbsp;
Semolina pancakes without vegetables


  • Mix semolina with yogurt and water and leave the mixture for 10 minutes;
  • Add vegetables and greenery to taste, spices, salt and mix everything very well. The mixture should not be too liquid but not too thick as well – otherwise add more water or semolina accordingly;
  • Heat a pan with oil;
  • Add a small amount of semolina mixture to a hot pan and spread the mixture with a spoon, make a layer as thin as possible;
  • Fry each pancake on medium flame until it begins to easily stick out at the edges;
  • Flip the pancake over and fry from the other side;
  • Follow the same steps with other pancakes;
  • Serve semolina pancakes with your favorite sauces or with unsweetened yogurt. You can also try cooking Indian green coriander and mint chutney to eat with these pancakes.
