Creamy mashed potatoes

Not traditionally a Russian recipe but very famous in Russia. While in India I have seen it only once – in Italian restaurant, otherwise Indians usually mash already boiled potatoes and use it in another dishes, not as a separate dish.

  • 4-5 medium sized potatoes;
  • 3 cups of water;
  • 1 cup of milk – optional;
  • 20g of butter – optional;
  • Salt – to taste;
  • Black pepper – to taste;
  • Herbs – to taste;
  • Greenery/ salted rusk cubes/ fried onions – any of them for toppings but optional

  • Peel and rinse the potatoes;
  • Cut them in medium sized pieces, so they would get boiled faster;
  • Put for boiling in salted water;
  • Boil until potatoes are soft;
  • Remove water from boiled potatoes;
  • Heat milk with but butter;
  • Add black pepper, herbs and milk with butter to the potatoes;
  • Mash potatoes with a masher or hand blender to a very smooth consistency;
  • While serving, add toppings if desire.

Bon Appetit!
