Mushrooms with peas (Matar Mushroom)

A very simple and fast Indian vegan main course dish (in India this dish is also named Matar Mushroom – a name is in Hinglish – a mix of Hindi and English).

Ingredients:

  • Mushrooms – 200 grams, cut into slices;
  • Green peas (frozen or fresh) – 150 grams;
  • 1 onion, finely chopped;
  • 1 tomato, chopped into small pieces/ blended into pure;
  • 1 clove of garlic, chopped into small pieces/ grated;
  • A little bit of ginger, shopped into small pieces/ grated;
  • 1 fresh green chili – optional;
  • 1/2 tsp of cumin seeds;
  • 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder;
  • 1/4 tsp of red chili powder – optional;
  • 1/4 tsp of black pepper;
  • 3/4 tsp of Garam Masala;
  • 1/2 tsp of salt;
  • 1.5 tbsp of cooking oil

Recipe:

  • Heat a pan with oil, add cumin seeds and fry them for 30 seconds;
  • Add onions, garlic, ginger and chili, fry until they turn golden;
  • Add the tomato and cook it becomes soft and mushy;
  • Add Garam Masala, turmeric, red chili powder and black pepper, mix everything well and cook for a minute;
  • Add peas, mushrooms and salt, mix well and cook for 5 minutes on medium heat;
  • Cover the pan and cook on low heat until mushrooms and peas are properly cooked, stir occasionally;
  • The dish is ready. You can put a little bit of fresh greenery on the top of it while serving.
